Featuring the Canadian Brass, you’ll hear classics such as Ding Dong Merrily on High, Go Tell It on the Mountain and Christmas Time is Here, as well as a bit of Dixieland jazz.

350. Toronto’s “Favourite” Messiah

Dubbed “Toronto’s Favourite Messiah,” it simply wouldn’t be the holidays without taking in a performance of Handel’s Messiah by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra! Featuring the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and Guest Conductor Nicholas Kraemer of Chicago’s Music of the Baroque, this Messiah will be unforgettable.

342. Ehnes Plays Tchaikovsky

Violinist James Ehnes has been described as “the Jascha Heifetz of our day” by the Globe and Mail; come see what all the fuss is about tonight at Roy Thomson Hall as Ehnes plays Tchaikovsy with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Pieces include Polonaise from Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, and Symphony No. 2 “Little Russian.”

324. Buskertainment

You’ve seen buskers entertaining in the summer months, but it takes a true performer to withstand the November cold and participate in WinterMagic’s Buskertainment! Holiday shoppers will be amazed and entertained by illusionists, mimes, human statues, jugglers, fire performers, stilt walkers and more throughout the streets of the downtown Yonge-Dundas neighbourhood. Make sure to leave the buskers a tip, as all proceeds raised will go to Raising the Roof, an organization that helps find long-term solutions to homelessness in Canada.

Buskertainment operates on Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 2pm from November 12th to December 18th.

 

320. Two Pianos Four Hands

Taking place at the Panasonic Theatre, Two Pianos Four Hands presents pianists extraordinaire Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt. The two co-wrote and star in the production which first opened at the Tarragon Theatre in April 1996. Since then, Two Pianos Four Hands has played on five continents and over 150 cities! The story of aspiring talents, teachers, lessons and competitions continues to be performed around the world.

Enjoy the sounds of Hollywood as presented by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra! You’ll hear classic selections including Over the Rainbow, Moon River, Cabaret, and The Way We Were as broadway star Hugh Panaro joins conductor Steven Reineke for an evening of unforgettable music. Jodi Benson, the original voice of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid will also be part of the evening, singing the well-loved songs from that animated classic.

273. Peter & the Symphony: Brahms Symphony No. 1

As part of the Exposed Concert Series, tonight’s performance of Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 is so much more than a performance. Conductor Peter Oundjian will begin the evening by discussing the history, style and contents of the Symphony, illustrated by live musical examples played by the TSO. Following his informative introduction to the music, Oundjian will go on to conduct a complete performance of the Symphony.

269. Music Mondays

Since 1992, the Church of the Holy Trinity has hosted “Music Mondays,” an independent community music series offering a spectrum of musicians from Toronto and all around the world. The Church is well-known for its beautiful acoustical space, and has frequently been used for performances and recordings throughout the years. Today’s Music Monday performance is the last of the 2011 series, and features Jerome Summers on the clarinet, Sharon Kahan on the flute, and Angela Park on the piano. The trio will play the music of Debussy, Shostakovich and Bize.

264. Lunch Time Live!

Take a lunch break and enjoy some of Canada’s best jazz, country, boss nova and rock ‘n’ roll at Yonge-Dundas Square. Starting at 12:30pm and continuing for an hour, this afternoon’s performance will feature the Toronto Tabla Ensemble (TTE). The tabla is typically a solo instrument, but the TTE presents this North Indian percussive tradition as an ensemble performance. Bassist Ian de Souza, multi-disciplinary artist Evan Ritchie, and the Chhandam Dance Company join the ensemble to create an amazing live show that just might make you forget that you have to go back to work for the afternoon!
