356. Kensington Market Winter Solstice

December 22, 2011

Formerly known as the Festival of Lights, the Kensington Market Winter Solstice is a celebration of light on the longest, darkest night of the year – the winter solstice! Gather at Oxford & Augusta for an official send-off, then make your way with your lantern through the market, to Alexandra Park for an 8:00pm finale. Though you have missed the lantern-making workshop, you can certainly make your own lantern (there are plenty of kits available for sale, or you can find out how to make your own lantern online) to participate in the fun.

303. Pedestrian Sunday

October 30, 2011

We’ve featured Pedestrian Sunday on 365Toronto before, but today’s event is a special Halloween celebration. With an “Honouring Our Ancestors” theme, you can be sure that this Pedestrian Sunday will be an event you won’t forget! As usual, the streets of Kensington Market will be vehicle-free from 12pm to 7pm for this pedestrian-only event, giving you the opportunity to explore the shops, meet the people, and enjoy the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of Pedestrian Sunday in a new and exciting (and possibly “spooky”) way!

212. Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market

July 31, 2011

The streets are yours from 12 to 7pm today as Kensington Market creates a “pedestrian-only” zone on the last Sunday of every month from May to October. Pedestrian Sundays were created to “reclaim [the] streets from the mess of traffic and parking, [allowing the] neighbourhood [to] enjoy the opportunity to express it character.” This event features music, movement inspired yoga, cooking, drawing, and culture galore, while focusing on creating an atmosphere and a dream as to what a livable city and sustainable future could look like.

As Kensington Market celebrates its 8th season of Pedestrian Sundays, they are adopting an “elements” theme – today’s theme is “Water: Streams of Consciousness.” To learn more about Pedestrian Sundays, go to www.pskensington.ca/stores.
