Featuring the plays Blood.Claat, Benu, and Word! Sound! Powah!, the Sankofa Trilogy is “d’bi.young anitafrika’s offering to her mother who taught her dubpoetry. to her grandmother who taught her resilience. to jamaica who taught her black is beautiful. to canada who taught her wombanism. and to the world who is teaching her love.” These three plays are a return to d’bi’s own childhood as she examines her family’s memories and remembers the “herstories” of her ancestors in an effort to “better love herself, her children, her peoples, her planet, and the entire universe.”
