Seniors receive free Toronto Zoo admission and free Zoomobile ride all day passes today, so whether you are a senior, or whether there are some special seniors you would like to spend the day with, head to the Zoo for a day of free fun! With any luck, the summer’s heat will have dissipated and the animals will be out of the shade and in plain view!

253. The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers 2011

Make this weekend matter and make it a Weekend to End Women’s Cancers. Today and tomorrow, participants will walk 60 km in the name of raising funds for cancer research at the Princess Margaret Hospital. You’re too late to register for this year’s walk, but it is never too early to start planning, training, and fundraising for next year’s event. Of course, this year you can support the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers by cheering for the walkers, and by contributing financially.

Each year the Cabbagetown Festival celebrates the sights, sounds, people and community of one of Toronto’s favourite neighbourhoods – Cabbagetown! Festivities include the Cabbagetown Art & Crafts Sale, stage entertainment, a “Grand Parade,” plenty of pub and patio entertainers, street vendors, a Short Film & Video Festival, “Blair’s Run,” pub crawl, Riverdale Farm Fall Harvest Festival, walking tours of historic Cabbagetown, and much more!

251. 36th International Film Festival

Lauded as one of the prestigious film festivals in the world (Time has noted that the festival has “grown from its place as the most influential fall film festival to the most influential film festival, period”), the 36th Toronto International Film Festival is finally here! Known as the festival from which the Oscar race begins, this annual film extravaganza brings celebrities from all over the world to our very own city.

With reasonably priced tickets and a variety of ticket packages, anybody can get in on all the TIFF action! Single tickets start at $19.69 and a 50-film pass will cost $524. Tickets have been on sale for a few days now so selection may be limited, but you can still get in on the TIFF action by bringing your camera for some “star-gazing!”

250. Bollywood Cinema Showcards: Indian Film Art From the 1950s to 1980s

2011 has been declared the “Year of India in Canada” – celebrate with “Bollywood Cinema Showcards: Indian Film Art from the 1950s to the 1980s.” The ROM presents an array of vintage Bollywood cinema showcards and other forms of film advertising, assembled for the first time in our country! Local artisans have created vivid interpretations of scenes from several Bollywood films using a combination of photo collage and hand painting.

249. Hands-on Cooking Classes: Sponsored by Cruda Cafe

You’ve heard of the locavore movement, vegetarianism and the vegan lifestyle, but have you discovered “raw” food? Raw foodism or “rawism” focuses on consuming uncooked and unprocessed food. Sound intriguing? Chef Claudia Gaviria of Cruda Cafe will take this hands-on cooking class to a new level as she introduces class participants to recipes using green, organic and locally grown vegan “raw food.”

Perhaps best known for his play, Death of A Salesman, Arthur Miller’s drama, The Price, is an equally gripping tale of family and the impact our decisions has on those closest to us. The Soulpepper Theatre Company brings the tale of two estranged brothers to life as they meet in a condemned house to sell their father’s possessions. The brothers discover that the price of one’s decisions is worth more than the price of their aging father’s furniture.
