Retail Management students at Ryerson have been paired up with businesses in Downtown Yonge to create fabulous holiday window displays on a budget of only $100!

324. Buskertainment

You’ve seen buskers entertaining in the summer months, but it takes a true performer to withstand the November cold and participate in WinterMagic’s Buskertainment! Holiday shoppers will be amazed and entertained by illusionists, mimes, human statues, jugglers, fire performers, stilt walkers and more throughout the streets of the downtown Yonge-Dundas neighbourhood. Make sure to leave the buskers a tip, as all proceeds raised will go to Raising the Roof, an organization that helps find long-term solutions to homelessness in Canada.

Buskertainment operates on Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 2pm from November 12th to December 18th.

322. Magic Squares: The Patterned Imagination of Muslim Africa in Contemporary Culture

The Textile Museum of Canada aims to connect cloth, culture and art, and Magic Squares: The Patterned Imagination of Muslim Africa in Contemporary Culture does just that. An examination of the relationship between patterns, communication, and the spirit, the four contemporary artists behind the exhibit have used the Museum’s permanent collection of Islamic African artifacts to look deeper into embroidered, woven and painted “magic squares.”

320. Two Pianos Four Hands

Taking place at the Panasonic Theatre, Two Pianos Four Hands presents pianists extraordinaire Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt. The two co-wrote and star in the production which first opened at the Tarragon Theatre in April 1996. Since then, Two Pianos Four Hands has played on five continents and over 150 cities! The story of aspiring talents, teachers, lessons and competitions continues to be performed around the world.

318. Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival

Highlighting films and videos by East an Southeast Asian artists in North America, Asia, and across the world, the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival is in full-swing! In its 11th year, the Festival is the largest of its kind in Canada and serves as a “public forum for Asian media artists and their work…fuel[ing] the growing appreciation for Asian cinema in Canada.”

317. Being Scene

Today is the last day of Being Scene, an annual juried exhibition of art by those who have experienced both mental illness and addiction and the healing power of art. By exhibiting these pieces of art, Workman Arts in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health endeavors to create a more realistic and respectful understanding of individuals in recovery from addiction and mental illness. The exhibition features work by fifty artists, all of which is for sale. One hundred percent of the proceed go directly to the participating artists.
